JULY

First new birds for the area since the 28th May were recorded two months later on the 28th July at the Eric Morecambe pools, with Ruff and Pectoral Sandpiper. The Pec was only visible from the Crag Road viewpoint, until later in the month when it moved to the Allen pool.  Osprey from the public hide at Leighton Moss became only my third new bird in the last two months, leaving me on 177species and 729 points. At the same time over the last two years I was on 178 and 180, so its not so bad. Hopefully August will produce some more waders and seabirds.

AUGUST

Another month not recording any new birds within the area. But I'm only one species down on 1998 and three on 1999, at the same time of year. The Osprey seen at the end of July continued to show throughout August, with three being seen on the 1st September, giving most reality birders the opportunity to see one. The end of the month was spent out of the area taking on pelagic trips from the Isles of Scilly, with species recorded including , Storm Petrel, Great Skua, Sooty, Great and Manx Shearwater, Arctic Skua and finally Wilsons Petrel.  I have not recorded any of these in the area this year. Hopefully I may see some of them over the coming months.  My score at the end of August was 729 with 177 species.
