Heysham Power Station land won the Coastal Sites category for this nationwide competition with 144 species.   It involved listing all species seen 'using the site' with respect to the land owned by a single business entity.   At Heysham, this referred to all British Energy-owned land.

We were very fortunate that a good chunk of Red Nab is specified as Power Station property, according to the all-important dotted line.    Similarly, there was a 'grey area' at the end of the power station outfalls with respect to what was 'using' what and where the boundary between the open sea and the feeding area produced by the outfalls actually was.    We were extremely honest about this and fully deserved the victory!  If we had been able to count 'seen from' or even fly-overs (e.g. Osprey, Whooper Swan), we would have easily topped 150 species.

Counting 'seen-from' and flyovers, does anyone here possess a decent garden or workplace list?   Anyone interested in a friendly year-list competition in these travel-restricted times, start counting in your garden or workplace!
