Reality Birding League 2001
Spring
2001 |
Little changed over the month of December, with few new birds for everyone taking part (but more than last year. Ed), with one of the few notable birds being Waxwing at the end of the month. Pete Marsh finished on an unbeatable list of 202 species and 946 points, due to a large degree on the number of finds during the year, particularly sea birds.

This year we have some new birders taking part in the reality leagues fourth year. John Reddish is second to Pete Marsh, with an additional species to his credit. His finds included both European White-fronted Goose, with Howard Elliot, and Waxwings. He was also one of the few people who saw both the Slavonian and Red-necked Grebes. Also new to the league this year are Steve Dodgson and Graham Powell, with Graham lucky enough to have 9 Waxwings flying over Leighton Moss. John Girdley has also rejoined the league this year
The scoring has changed this year with some additional species/splits, which include Continental Cormorant, argentatus Herring Gull, and a split of the Bean Geese.
The League is run, as I see it, as a fun event to encourage a more extensive coverage of the local area. A better crossover of information has been very noticeable over the last three years. There is still plenty of time to enter for this year, and if you are interested and require any information or scoring sheets etc, please contact me, or speak to anyone who takes part.
My Local Birds page on the Reality League site is updated, whenever possible, on a daily basis with the relevant local sightings and the address is www.realityleague.freeserve.co.uk/page2 .Contributions to this are always appreciated as local news doesn't always filter through to the pager & other services. I can be contacted on 39556 or e-mail john@whalleyroad.screaming.net.
