From Southern Sweden
to Lapland July 2001
- Generally, it was a windy month of
July. No long periods of sunshine, but not too much rain either.
But the wind often kept birds and animals hidden and difficult
to observe. My main target species
were Gyrfalcon, Moose and Whales; I managed to see them all during
the first week; the rest I considered as a bonus! Ended up with
15 raptor species, all except Hen Harrier!...Lutz Lücker

Southern Sweden - In
search of Owls Dec. 2000
- Twitchable Pine Grosbeaks, Great Grey and
Hawk Owls were all available in southern Sweden during the 2000/2001
winter. Remco Hofland reports on these, and introduces
some other excellent birding sites in the area.
Southern Sweden - Oland
and Falsterbo: Oct. 2000
- As the sun broke through the raptor numbers
began to build, Sparrowhawks and a sprinkling of Goshawks first;
followed by gradually building numbers of Buzzards, both Common
and Rough-legged. During the afternoon we moved up the east coast
checking the fields for geese and cranes..Robin Griffiths

Sweden - Stockholm
archipelago: July 2000
- Most of our time was spent at our family
house on the island of Tynningö which is in the Stockholm archipelago
between Vaxholm and close to both Rindö and Värmdö. Parts of the
island are still wild. In particular the area we own which is
48,000 square metres is mainly forest.. Other areas include a
lake which has a water level about 10 or 12 metres above the surrounding
sea level - this lake contains crayfish! - and there is a good
wetland swamp area adjacent to it. Michael Watkins reports.
Northern Scandinavia
June 13-28, 1998
- In June 1998 I was finally able to satisfy
a long outstanding ambition to travel to this wonderful part of
Europe in search of some of its most magical birds. I had wanted
to visit this region for many years... Gruff Dodd searches
for lifers in Northern Finland, Sweden and Norway. A superbly
detailed report.
Sweden July/August
1995
- This was a family holiday with my wife,
Bridgette and son, Michael, on my first visit to Sweden. I planned
to watch birds and wildlife whenever I could. The season presented
little opportunity for owls or woodpeckers and this choice of
dates was governed by the school holidays. This report concentrates
on the birding I did on the trip..Mike King, the Gloster
