Finland 8th-18th July 2010
- Having withstood blizzards, gales and torrential rain in late May 2000, we felt it was about time we returned to see if the weather in Finland was always that bad..Colin and Alison Parnell report.
Finland 24th – 30th May 2009
- Birdwatching in Finland is surreal. The 24 hours of daylight and the unusual times when you are birdwatching make it a unique experience. It is very tiring and the days are very long...Ken Musgrove reports

- Our next stop was for an awesome adult
White-tailed Eagle that flew over the roadside trees and
gave spectacular views. A little further on we stopped for
coffee at a roadside café.....There were all the usual commoner
birds present including several Common Redpolls, and after
a good 10 minutes I picked up a Pine Grosbeak perched in
a very close tree...Nick Bray reports for

Finland 16th-20th
May 2005
- By 0150 the sky was reddening from the north

Finland and Varanger
23rd May 3rd June 2001
- We traveled in late May in order to maximise
opportunities to pick up species that can be difficult at other
times of the year e.g. Owls and Woodpeckers, and to get early
migrants. We decided to travel extensively and the longer daylight
hours enabled two whole 'nights' to be spent birding, although
having to travel the following day, led to significant sleep loss....Wilton
Farrelly reports
Birding through Finland (and a bit
Norway) May/June 2001
- We moved towards Parikkala, with a short
stop at Porvoo (beautiful the old city!). We reached Siikalahti
at 5 pm and we headed for the bird tower. Here we felt like to
be home for the quantity of waterbirds, but we had another 6 new
entries in our life list: Little Gull, Horned Grebe, White-backed
Woodpecker, Smew, Whooper Swan. In the wood near the bird-tower
we had a "Phylloscopus", which we identified only at home as Greenish
Warbler...Stefano and Daniela Fantini report

Northern Scandinavia

- In June 1998 I was finally able to satisfy
a long outstanding ambition to travel to this wonderful part of
Europe in search of some of its most magical birds. I had wanted
to visit this region for many years... Gruff Dodd searches
