NB. FCP denotes Felipe Carrilo Puerto, Calakmul denotes the long access road as well as the main archaeological site.

Brown Pelican Pelecanus occidentalis
Seen easily at 3 sites, Rio Lagartos, Sumidero Canyon & Isla Mujeres.

Neotropic Cormorant Phalacrocorax brasilianus
A common bird around patches of water. Seen at Rio Lagartos, Usumacinta marshes, Sumidero canyon & Isla Mujeres.

Double-crested Cormorant Phalacrocorax auritus
Several seen as the bird came into dock on Isla Contoy on April 28th.

Anhinga Anhinga anhinga
Several seen at Rio Lagartos on April 15th.

Magnificent Frigatebird Fregata magnificens
Easily seen on the islands of Mujeres & Contoy; the nesting birds on Contoy giving wonderful views.

Black-bellied Whistling-Duck Dendrocygna autumnalis
A loose group of over 50 on the marshy area at KM13, Los Colarados on April 16th.

Blue-winged Teal Anas discors
Seen with, but in lower numbers than, the previous species at Los Colarados. Surprisingly (as we saw no marshy areas) 3 seen in flight over the Calakmul road on April 19th.

Reddish Egret Egretta rufescens
Several dark morphs on the beach at Isla Contoy on April 28th. Seen from the boat as it came in to dock.

Tricolored Heron Egretta tricolor
2 at Rio Lagartos on April 15th. Seen on a small pool in the mangroves, near the beach front restaurant.

Little Blue Heron Egretta caerulea
2 at Rio Lagartos with the previous species. 1 seen the next day at Los Colarados around KM13.

Snowy Egret Egretta thula
A common and easily seen species, noted in several localities; Rio Lagartos, Calakmul, Usumacinta marshes, Sumidero canyon, Isla Mujeres

Great Blue Heron Ardea herodias
At least 4 seen at the Usumacinta Marshes. 3 seen in the Sumidero Canyon whilst taking the boat trip up river.

Great White Egret Ardea alba
Common in suitable marshy habitat.

Cattle Egret Bubulcus ibis
Recorded at the Usumacinta Marshes.

Green Heron Butorides virescens
3 seen around the mangrove fringed pools at Rio Lagartos on April 15th and then another 3 at the Usumacinta marshes on April 20th.

Black-crowned Night-Heron Nycticorax nycticorax
Just one adult seen at the Usumacinta Marshes on 19thApril.

Bare-throated Tiger-Heron Tigrisoma mexicanum
Quite easily seen from the car at the Usumacinta marshes on April 20th. Several of the adults and juvenile birds posed. for photographs.

PINNATED BITTERN Botaurus pinnatus
A bit of scanning from the roadside eventually produced good views of 5 of these birds at Usumacinta marshes on April 20th.

White Ibis Eudocimus albus
Several seen in flight going to roost around the mangrove swamps of Rio Lagartos (April 15th), and then easily seen around the larger patches of water on the Usumacinta marshes – April 20th.

Roseate Spoonbill Ajaia ajaja
Common around the larger areas of water at Usumacinta marshes on April 20th.

Wood Stork Mycteria American
Easily seen at the Usumacinta marshes on April 20th

Black Vulture Coragyps atratus
Easily seen at several sites especially along the cliffs of the Sumidero canyon.

Turkey Vulture Cathartes aura
Commonly seen in a variety of habitats especially the open expanse of the Usumacinta marshes.

Lesser Yellow-headed Vulture Cathartes burrovianus
1 was eventually picked out from the hoards of Turkey Vultures at the Usumacinta marshes on April 20th. Quite possibly overlooked.

Osprey Pandion haliaetus
2 at Usumacinta marshes on April 20th.

Grey-headed Kite Leptodon cayanensis
1 at Palenque on April 20th perched on an exposed branch in the distance. Luckily a distinctive forest raptor.

Hook-billed Kite Chondrohierax uncinatus
Widespread raptor seen at several locations - FCP (2), Calakmul (2) & the Usumacinta marshes

Swallow-tailed Kite Elanoides forficatus
2 separate individuals spotted from the car along the Ocosingo Road on April 20th whilst journeying to San Cristobal.

White-tailed Kite Elanus leucurus
One seen in open habitat from the car near Escarcega on April 25th.

Crane Hawk Geranospiza caerulescens
One at Calakmul on April 18th.

Common Black-Hawk Buteogallus anthracinus
Whilst trying to shelter from the blazing sun and hoards of tourists at Palenque on April 20th, 2 of these mid size raptors were seen soaring over the surrounding ridges.

Black-collared Hawk Busarellus nigricollis
1 by the road at Usumacinta marshes on April 19th.

Grey Hawk Asturina plagiata
Seen well at 3 sites; Ek Balam, FCP & 2 at Palenque along the San Manuel road on April 25th.

Swainson's Hawk Buteo swainsoni
A distant soaring bird was seen by RDR only at Palenque on April 20th.

Northern Crested Caracara Caracara cheriway
3 seen while driving between Tizimin and Rio Lagartos on 16th April.

Bat Falcon Falco rufigularis
A pair (presumably the same) was seen on both trips to Palenque, around the ruins.

Peregrine Falcon Falco peregrinus
A single bird was watched flying up the Sumidero Canyon from the dock on April 22nd.

Plain Chachalaca Ortalis vetula
Seen around the accommodation at Calakmul (2) and also along the approach road to the ruins. A further 2 were seen at Sumidero Canyon on the approach road but by far the easiest place to observe this species was Tuxtla Zoo, where they fed like chickens around the café tables!

Crested Guan Penelope purpurascens
2 were seen early one morning along the approach road to the Calakmul ruins on April 19th.  – note the campsite here has a “tame” pair as well, Tuxtla Zoo

GREAT CURASSOW Crax rubra
6 habituated females were easily watched at Tuxtla Zoomat on April 23rd. Males were present in a couple of the enclosures but not seen on the “right” side of the wire.

OCELLATED TURKEY Meleagris ocellata
Along the road to the ruins this species has to be dodged! At least 30 were seen in either singles or small groups on April 18th with smaller numbers the next day. Certainly one of the easier Yucatan endemics to both find and identify!

BLACK-THROATED (YUCATAN) BOBWHITE Colinus nigrogularis
5 birds were watched crossing a dusty track around KM8 at Rio Lagartos on April 16th.

Grey-necked Wood-Rail Aramides cajanea
One bird watched in relatively open habitat at the Usumacinta marshes on April 19th.

American Purple Gallinule Porphyrio martinicus
2 birds watched in swampy roadside habitat in the Usumacinta marshes on April 19th.

Common Moorhen Gallinula chloropus
A single bird seen on the Usumacinta marshes on April 19th.

Limpkin Aramus guarauna
9 seen from the road at the Usumacinta marshes on April 19th especially around the larger stretches of water.

Northern Jacana Jacana spinosa
Several seen at the Usumacinta marshes on April 19th.

Lesser Yellowlegs Tringa flavipes
Several birds present around Rio Lagartos/Los Coloradas on April 15th & 16th.

Semipalmated Sandpiper Calidris pusilla
3 birds at Rio Lagartos on April 15th.

Solitary Sandpiper Tringa solitaria
A single bird on a muddy roadside pool on the Usumacinta marshes on April 19th.

Spotted Sandpiper Tringa macularia
A summer plumaged bird watched from the hotel balcony as it bobbed along the shoreline on Isla Mujeres – April 29th.

Least Sandpiper Calidris minutilla
3 birds watched on a roadside pool at KM8 near Rio Lagartos on April 16th.

DOUBLE-STRIPED THICK-KNEE Burhinus bistriatus
One of the highlights of the trip was the sighting of a pair of these birds sheltering from the sun at the start of the Usumacinta marshes on April 19th.

Black-necked Stilt Himantopus mexicanus
15 birds watched on roadside lagoons at Los Colarados on April 16th.

Grey Plover Pluvialis squatarola
A couple of this species were seen along the muddy edges of the mangrove fringed lagoons of Isla Contoy on April 28th.

Laughing Gull Larus atricilla
Common along the shore of Rio Lagartos on April 15th. Also seen in small numbers around Isla Mujeres on several dates.

Franklin's Gull Larus pipixcan
9 birds circled around the boat near the dam at Sumidero Canyon on April 22nd.

Caspian Tern Sterna caspia
2 flew up one of the major rivers at the Usumacinta marshes on April 19th.

Royal Tern Sterna maxima
Several of this species seen perched on posts next to the turtle sanctuary on Isla Mujeres on April 27th.

Bridled Tern Sterna anaethetus
Several seen on offshore islets adjacent to Isla Contoy on April 28th

Least Tern Sterna antillarum
At least one seen from the boat whilst traveling to Isla Contoy on April 28th.

White-winged Dove Zenaida asiatica
Quite common around Rio Lagartos on April 15th & 16th.

Inca Dove Columbina inca
3 birds in the car park of Tuxtla Zoo on April 23rd.

Common Ground-Dove Columbina passerine
1 seen around the ruins of Ek Balam on April 16th.

Plain-breasted Ground-Dove Columbina minuta
1 feeding in an agricultural field alongside the road at the Usumacinta marshes on April 19th.

Ruddy Ground-Dove Columbina talpacoti
1 near Palenque, along the San Manuel road on April 25th.

Blue Ground-Dove Claravis pretiosa
One male at FCP on April 17th.

White-tipped Dove Leptotila verreauxi
2 along the road at Calakmul on April 18th.

Olive-throated Parakeet Aratinga nana
3 seen well at FCP on April 17th. Also 2 seen at Palenque on April 25th.

Orange-fronted Parakeet Aratinga canicularis
6 seen just outside the Tuxtla ZooMAT on 23rd April – from the range map in Howell and Webb it is possible these were escapes.

White-fronted Parrot Amazona albifrons
3 seen at Rio Lagartos on April 16th. Also seen at FCP on April 17th. Either this species or the endemic Yucatan Parrot…

Red-lored Parrot Amazona autumnalis
1 at Palenque on April 20th.

Squirrel Cuckoo Piaya cayana
Seen clambering clumsily through the canopy at several localities - Calakmul, Palenque, Sumidero canyon (3) & Tuxtla Zoo.

Groove-billed Ani Crotophaga sulcirostris
Easily seen at both Rio Lagartos and particularly the drier areas of the Usumacinta marshes – April 19th.

LESSER ROADRUNNER Geococcyx velox
One of the highlights of the trip was this species. 2 seen well at KM8 of Rio Lagartos, another was encountered in a set aside field close to the Sumidero canyon, and finally one seen running across the road at the same site.

Ferruginous Pygmy-Owl Glaucidium brasilianum
This species responded very well to playback of its call showing well on several occasions at Calakmul and Sumidero Canyon (2).

White-collared Swift Streptoprocne zonaris
Several seen overhead at Palenque on April 20th & 25th.

Vaux's Swift Chaetura vauxi
Commonly seen overhead at a number of sites.

White-throated Swift Aeronautes saxatalis
1 over the pine woods on the Ocosingo road on April 21st.

Western Long-tailed Hermit Phaethornis longirostris
2 birds seen in the humid forest at Palenque on April 20th & 25th. Another one seen at the waterfall Misol-Ha on April 24th.

Little Hermit Phaethornis longuemareus
We were a little surprised to see a single of this species along the Ocosingo road near San Cristobal on April 21st, but there was no doubt about the identification.

WEDGE-TAILED SABREWING Campylopterus curvipennis
3 of this endemic seen at FCP on April 17th and another 2 seen on the return visit on April 26th.

CANIVET'S (FORK-TAILED) EMERALD Chlorostilbon canivetti
A female of this endemic hummer seen at the ruins at Ek Balam on April 16th. Another at the Sumidero Canyon on April 23rd.

WHITE-EARED HUMMINGBIRD Hylocharis leucotis
Seen close to the Ocosingo road close to San Cristobal on April 21st & 24th.  The males of this endemic hummer are particularly attractive.

White-bellied Emerald Amazilia candida
1 at FCP on April 17th with 2 there on April 26th. 1 at Palenque on April 20th.

Cinnamon Hummingbird Amazilia rutila
3 of this distinctive hummer around KM8 at Rio Lagartos on April 16th. 2 at Calakmul on April 18th and FCP on April 26th.

Rufous-tailed Hummingbird Amazilia tzacatl
1 seen along the San Manuel Road close to Palenque on April 25th.

Buff-Bellied Hummingbird Amazilia yucatanensis
Single bird at Palenque on April 20th (DL only).

GARNET-THROATED HUMMINGBIRD Lamprolaima rhami
4 of these attractive endemics seen close to San Cristobal along the Ocosingo Road on April 24th.

MEXICAN SHEARTAIL Doricha eliza
4 of this endemic hummer seen well around KM8 at Rio Lagartos on April 16th.

Ruby-throated Hummingbird Archilochus colubris
Migrants of this species were seen at Rio Lagartos on April 16th, FCP on 17th and surprisingly from the boat on the way to Isla Contoy on April 28th.

Black-headed Trogon Trogon melanocephalus
1 at FCP on April 17th and at least 1 there on April 26th. 3 at Calakmul on April 19th.

MOUNTAIN TROGON Trogon mexicanus
A pair of this unobtrusive endemic was eventually located along the Ocosingo Road close to San Cristobal on April 24th.

Northern Violaceous Trogon Trogon caligatus
A male at Calakmul on April 19th, and another at Sumidero Canyon on April 23rd.

Amazon Kingfisher Chloroceryle amazona
1 seen at the Usumacinta marshes on April 19th.

Turquoise-browed Motmot Eumomota superciliosa
2 at Ek Balam on April 16th, 1 at Calakmul on April 18th and 1 at Palenque on April 25th.

RUSSET-CROWNED MOTMOT Momotus mexicanus
Good views of this endemic at Sumidero Canyon (2) on April 22nd & 23rd, and again within Tuxtla Zoo on April 23rd.

Rufous-tailed Jacamar Galbula ruficauda
Typical views of this species perched low down at the edge of forest on the San Manuel Road on April 25th.

1 at the Sumidero Canyon on April 23rd.

Collared Aracari Pteroglossus torquatus
1 at Calakmul on April 19th and 3 at Palenque on April 20th, with 4 there on April 25th.

KEEL-BILLED TOUCAN Ramphastos sulfuratus
2 at Calakmul on April 18th, 2 at Misol-Ha on April 24th and 4 at FCP on April 26th.

Black-cheeked Woodpecker Melanerpes pucherani
3 near the entrance to the ruins at Palenque on April 25th.

YUCATAN WOODPECKER Melanerpes pygmaeus
1 at Calakmul on April 18th & 19th and 1 at FCP on April 26th.

Golden-fronted Woodpecker Melanerpes aurifrons
Seen at a number of locations - Rio Lagartos, Calakmul, Usumacinta marshes, Palenque, San Manuel Road. Commoner than Yucatan Woodpecker where the two occur together.

Hairy Woodpecker Picoides villosus
1 in pines along the Ocosingo road near to San Cristobal on April 21st.

Golden-olive Woodpecker Piculus rubiginosus
One seen by RR only at Sumidero Canyon on April 23rd.

Northern Flicker Colaptes auratus
1 of the mexicanoides race (Guatemalan Flicker) in pines along the Ocosingo road on April 21st.

Lineated Woodpecker Dryocopus lineatus
1 at FCP on April 17th and 1 along the San Manuel road on April 25th.

PALE-BILLED WOODPECKER Campephilus guatemalensis
One of the trip highlights was the taping in of a pair of these handsome woodpeckers at Calakmul on April 19th.

Olivaceous Woodcreeper Sittasomus griseicapillus
A single bird at Calakmul on April 18th.

Wedge-billed Woodcreeper Glyphorynchus spirurus
1 at Palenque on April 25th.

Strong-billed Woodcreeper Xiphocolaptes promeropirhynchus
1 at the Sumidero Canyon on April 23rd.

Barred Woodcreeper Dendrocolaptes certhia
1 at Calakmul on April 18th.

Ivory-billed Woodcreeper Xiphorhynchus flavigaster
1 at the Ek Balam ruins on April 16th and 1 at FCP around KM10 on April 17th.

Greenish Elaenia Myiopagis viridicata
1 at the Sumidero Canyon on April 22nd.

Eye-ringed Flatbill Rhynchocyclus brevirostris
Good views of this endearing little flycatcher at FCP (April 17th), Calakmul (April 18th) and Sumidero Canyon (April 22nd).

Yellow-olive Flycatcher Tolmomyias sulphurescens
1 at Palenque on April 20th and then nearby along the San Manuel road on April 25th.

NORTHERN ROYAL FLYCATCHER Onychorhynchus mexicanus
A pair seen very well near a nest at Palenque on both April 20th & 25th.

Sulphur-rumped Flycatcher Myiobius barbatus
In common with the previous species this bird was seen very well along a river course at Palenque on both April 20th & 25th. Nesting nearby.

BELTED FLYCATCHER Xenotriccus callizonus
One of the trip highlights was the eventual tracking down of this endemic at the Sumidero Canyon on April 23rd.

Eastern Wood-Pewee Contopus virens
1 seen at Calakmul on April 18th.

Least Flycatcher Empidonax minimus
1 at Calakmul on April 18th with 2 present the next day. 1 seen at Palenque on April 25th.

PINE FLYCATCHER Empidonax affinis
After seeing a number of likely candidates for this species that we couldn’t quite nail, we finally found a co-operative pair at the Ocosingo Road site on 24th April.

Vermilion Flycatcher Pyrocephalus rubinus
Only seen at the Usumacinta Marshes on 19th April, where a fine male perched on a roadside fence.

YUCATAN FLYCATCHER Myiarchus yucatanensis
Although a tricky species to identify, we were satisfied with one at FCP on 17th April, 2 at Calakmul on 18th and 19th April

Dusky-capped Flycatcher Myiarchus tuberculifer
One at Sumidero Canyon on 22nd April, 2-3 there the following day and 1+ at FCP on 26th April.

Great Crested Flycatcher Myiarchus crinitus
2 at FCP on 26th April.

Brown-crested Flycatcher Myiarchus tyrannulus
One at the San Salvador Junction on 16th April,

FLAMMULATED FLYCATCHER Deltarhynchus flammulatus
One taped in at the well-known site by the bend at km11 along the Sumidero Canyon road on 22nd April. Nice.

Tropical Kingbird Tyrannus melancholicus
Common and widespread.

Fork-tailed Flycatcher Tyrannus savanna
2 seen at the Usumacinta Marshes on 19th April.

Eastern Kingbird Tyrannus tyrannus
Several flew over, presumably on passage, at Sumidero Canyon on 23rd April, and then one seen on Isla Mujeres on 27th April.

Boat-billed Flycatcher Megarynchus pitangua
One at the Tuxtla Gutierrez ZooMAT on 23rd April, and one at the San Manuel Road on 25th April.

Sulphur-bellied Flycatcher Myiodynastes luteiventris
One at FCP on 17th April, one at Palenque on 20th April.

Social Flycatcher Myiozetetes similes
Fairly common and widespread.

Great Kiskadee Pitangus sulphuratus
Two at Calakmul on 19th April, 3 at Sumidero Canyon on 23rd April.

Rose-throated Becard Pachyramphus aglaiae
A pair at Ek Balam on 16th April, one female at Calakmul on 19th April.

Masked Tityra Tityra semifasciata
2 at Ek Balam on 16th April, 5 at FCP on 17th April, 2 at Calakmul on 19th April, ca 5 at Palenque on 20th April,

Black-crowned Tityra Tityra inquisitor
2 at FCP on 17th April and 2 at Palenque on 25th April.

UNICOLORED JAY Aphelocoma unicolor
One at the Ocosingo Road site on 24th April.

BLACK-THROATED JAY Cyanolyca pumilo
A pair at the Ocosingo Road site on 21st April led us on a merry dance before giving good views of their distinctive face pattern.

YUCATAN JAY Cyanocorax yucatanicus
A common and visible endemic, seen at various sites including San Salvador Junction, FCP, Calakmul.

Green Jay Cyanocorax yncas(??)
2 at Calakmul on 18th April, 1-2 at Sumidero Canyon on 22nd April, 1 at Sumidero Canyon on 23rd April and several at the Tuxtla Gutierrez ZooMAT on the same date.

Brown Jay Psilorhinus morio
Common and widespread, although not always easy to get a good view of.

White-throated Magpie-Jay Calocitta formosa
Seen fairly regularly in the area of Sumidero Canyon.

One at Sumidero Canyon on 23rd April.

2 at Calakmul on 19th April, one at FCP on 26th April.

One at FCP on 17th April, one at Sumidero Canyon on 23rd April, several at Palenque on 25th April.

Warbling Vireo Vireo gilvus
One at Sumidero Conyon on 23rd April, and 2 at the Ocosingo Road site on 24th April.

Lesser Greenlet Hylophilus decurtatus
2 at Calakmul on 18th April, one there the following day, ca 5 at Palenque on 20th April,

BROWN-BACKED SOLITAIRE Myadestes occidentalis
Seen quickly by DL and EC at the Ocosingo Road site, this species took RR quite a bit of effort to see (although easily heard) on our first visit on 21st April (2 seen in total and at least 2 others heard), then 2 seen on our second visit on 24th April.  A smart bird.

1-2 at the Ocosingo Road site on 24th April.

Grey-cheeked Thrush Catharus minimus
2 at Calakmul on 19th April.

Swainson's Thrush Catharus ustulatus
One at Palenque on 20th April (also recorded there on 25th April), at least one at Sumidero Canyon on 23rd April, and 3 at the Ocosingo Road site on 24th April.

Clay-colored Robin (Thrush)  Turdus grayi
2 at FCP on 17th April, 5+ at Sumidero Canyon on 23rd April, also recorded at Palenque on 25th April.

RUFOUS-COLLARED THRUSH Turdus rufitorques
5+ at the Ocosingo Road site on 21st and 24th April.

Grey Catbird Dumetella carolinensis
One at Ek Balam on 16th April, one at FCP on 17th April, one at the Usumacinta Marshes on 19th April and a pair at the San Manuel Road on 25th April.

BLACK CATBIRD Melanoptila glabrirostris
Excellent views of one at FCP on 17th April was something of a relief, as we were not visiting Cozumel Island, perhaps the easiest site for this species.

2 at the Ocosingo Road site on 21st April.

One seen at the San Salvador Junction site on 16th April.

Excellent views of a pair at Calakmul on 18th April, one there the following day, one at Palenque on 20th April and another there on 25th April. Finally one at FCP on 26th April.

One at Sumidero Canyon on 23rd April.

Possibly under-recorded – noted at Sumidero Canyon and Palenque.

Recorded with certainty at Sumidero Canyon on 23rd April – others seen were not generally separable from the following species.

Recorded with certainty at Ek Balam on 16th April – possibly at other sites.

One at the Ocosingo Road site on 24th April.

Northern Parula Parula americana
2 at San Salvador Junction  on 16th April.

CRESCENT-CHESTED WARBLER Parula superciliosa
One seen at the Ocosingo Road site on 21st April (although we then realized that we had heard several others), and ca 5 there on 24th April. A song well worth knowing and a lovely bird.

Yellow Warbler Dendroica petechia
2 at Rio Lagartos on 15th April, one at San Salvador Junction on 16th April, one at Tuxtla Gutierrex ZooMAT on 23rd April and several at FCP on 26th April.

Chestnut-sided Warbler Dendroica pensylvanica
Rather common at Palenque, with ca 5 there on 20th April, and one on 25th – also one at the San Manuel Road on 25th.

Magnolia Warbler Dendroica magnolia
Probably the commonest warbler on the trip, seen frequently.

Townsend's Warbler Dendroica townsendi
One at the Ocosingo Road site on 21st and 24th April. Stunning,

Black-throated Green Warbler Dendroica virens
Fairly common at Calakmul and at the Ocosingo Road site, also seen at Palenque and Sumidero Canyon.

Blackburnian Warbler Dendroica fusca
One at Puerta Calakmul Lodge on 17th April, 1-2 at Calakmul on 18th April, one at the Ocosingo Road site on 21st and 24th April.

Black-and-white Warbler Mniotilta varia
Seen in small numbers at a variety of locations including San Salvador Junction, FCP, Calakmul, Palenque, the Ocosingo Road site, Sumidero Canyon.

American Redstart Setophaga ruticilla
Proved to be one of the more numerous warblers seen on the trip – recorded at a wide range of sites.

Prothonotary Warbler Protonotaria citrea
This attractive warbler was seen on a number of occasions, including a pair in Rio Lagartos on 15th April and one at FCP on 17th April

Ovenbird Seiurus aurocapillus
One at Calakmul on 18th April, one at Palenque on 20th April

Northern Waterthrush Seiurus noveboracensis
Seen at a number of sites, often with very good views being obtained – 2 at Rio Lagartos on 15th April, one particularly obliging bird on the rocks beneath Misol-Ha waterfall on 24th April, and no fewer than 4 at FCP on 26th April.

Kentucky Warbler Oporornis formosus
1-2 seen at Palenque on 20th April.

One at Rio Lagartos on 15th April, one at San Salvador Junction on 16th April

Grey-crowned Yellowthroat Geothlypis poliocephala
One at San Salvador Junction on 16th April and one at Sumidero Canyon on 23rd April.

Hooded Warbler Wilsonia citrine
Superb views of a fine male at FCP on 17th April.

Wilson's Warbler Wilsonia pusilla
2 males at Palenque on 20th April, 2 at the Ocosingo Road site on 21st April and 5+ there on 24th April.

RED-FACED WARBLER Cardellina rubrifrons
A superb male at the Ocosingo Road site on 24th April was one of the highlights of that section of the trip.

PINK-HEADED WARBLER Ergaticus versicolor
Seen on a number of occasions at the Ocosingo Road site (in fact it was the second species we saw there on our first visit), 2-3 on 21st April and 1-2 on 24th April.

FAN-TAILED WARBLER Euthlypis lachrymose
One seen briefly at Sumidero Canyon on 22nd April followed by superb views of a pair there the following day.

RUFOUS-CAPPED WARBLER Basileuterus rufifrons
One at the San Manuel Road on 25th April.

GOLDEN-BROWED WARBLER Basileuterus belli
One seen rather briefly at the Ocosingo Road site on 24th April.

One at Calakmul on 19th April

Red-throated Ant-Tanager Habia fuscicauda
One at FCP on 17th April, a pair at Sumidero Canyon on 23rd April, and a pair at the San Manuel Road on 25th April.

Summer Tanager Piranga rubra
One male at Ek Balam on 16th April, and singles at the San Manuel Road and Palenque on 25th April.

ROSE-THROATED TANAGER Piranga roseogularis
A superb pair along the Calakmul access road on 19th April were very welcome, as this can be a tricky species, and Calakmul was not a place we were particularly expecting it.

Rather common at FCP and Palenque, also seen at Calakmul and the San Manuel Road.

1-2 seen at the Usumacinta Marshes on 19th April.

One male at the Usumacinta Marshes on 19th April, 2 at Palenque on 20th April and several at the San Manuel Road on 25th April.

A male watched quietly feeding in bamboo at Sumidero Canyon on 22nd April.

Single males at FCP on 17th and 26th April, another male at Calakmul on 19th April, and another at Sumidero Canyon on 22nd April.

A pair at Ek Balam on 16th April.

A smart pair seen at Sumidero Canyon on 22nd April, followed by a male on the 23rd.

Seen in a variety of locations including Calakmul, Usumacinta Marshes, Palenque

Common, widespread and obvious.
