We were 5 people, Arnau, Anna, David, Juli and Oriol. We went in a X-Trail Nissan 4 wheel drive car, that worked very well and took us wherever we wanted. We slept in hotels or tents, depending on the place.

We went for birdwatching in Morocco in 1995, so we had some target species that we missed the previous trip, and most of the "possible" species that we expected to see, we could see them. We saw 182 species.

One thing that surprised us was the big expansion that Laughing Dove has done in the last years, as we did not see any in 1995.

We expected to see some Sandgrouse species, but we only saw Black-bellied Sandgrouse. In the Tagdilt track we expected to see, with some luck, Spotted and Crowned but we were no lucky. The owner of the  "Soleil Blue" hotel in Boumalne Dades is a birdwatcher and told us that until november it was very difficult to see Sandgrouse species, and more those species that we were looking for.

We slept after Er Rachidia, close to a road that goes to Boubnib, in a place close to Bou-Bernous. The area is very dry, with some dry rivers , where there is few vegetation. We went there looking for a fountain, but the night that we slept there, it rained for a while, so it had no sense to look for the fountain. Here we saw the only Desert Sparrows of the trip, two males and one female . We had breakfast and we drove to the Yasmina lodge. We saw a Tristram's Warbler juvenile, a species that we missed in our previous trip. We thought that we could see this species in several places, but unfortunately that was the only one of the trip.

We where really surprised about the big increase of hotels that had occurred in the area since 1995. Perhaps the big increase of human activities can explain that we just saw three Desert Sparrows, and plenty of House Sparrows, while in 1995 we saw lots of Desert Sparrows and no House Sparrows.

We decided to go back to Tamri, and we took a track that follows a river, located in the north part of the town. We walked around the area, and suddenly we heard a falcon: it was a Barbary Falcon, and we had very good views of it, one of the target species of the trip. 12 October

In the early morning we took the catamaran, and we went direction to the Rhir cape. Going out of the Agadir harbour we saw one Lesser Crested Tern, a new species for us. Just out of the harbour, we saw several different species of Shearwaters, and then we had some time without seeing any seabird. When we had sailed for a while, we decided that it was time to throw one of the fish buckets; some gannets, gulls, terns and Cory´s Shearwater appeared, and we have very good views of these species. Unfortunately, a first year Northern Gannet got stuck in a hook of a rod, and they tried to take it into the boat, but when they took it, and they try to take out the hook, it died. They did not used the rod again.

We arrived at the Rhir cape, and the captain said the we could not go out of the bay, so some species that we expected, we could not see them. We threw the second fish bucket, and more or less the same species as before appeared, but suddenly two Parasitic Skua appeared, and created the panic among some Sandwich Terns.

We came back to Agadir quite close to the coast, and when we were more or less in Taghazoute, 300 meters from the coast, a group of 9 Bald Ibis flying from the south to the north passed quite closed to us.

The company that we took was called "Ste Maeva", and we DO NOT recommend them. They day before we explain them that we wanted to go out of the bay, and we could not, they did not took the fish that we deal the day before, and the worst, one of us forgot one Macmillan bird guide on the catamaran, and some days after we talked with them and they said that they did not find any book.

13 October

At 8:30 we were in the Massa Delta. First we birdwatched in some orchards close to the road before arriving at the information centre. We left the car in the information centre, we left the car, and started walking towards the sea. There was a lot of water in the river, and there are some sandy areas, reeds and tamarisks in the river there was a lot of ducks and herons, but there were fer shorebirds, remarkable species: Spoonbill, Glossy Ibis, Marbled Duck and Ferruginous Duck. We saw a Barbary Falcon carrying a Dove, that finally escaped. In a bush we found a Black-crowned Tchagra, again very well hidden, but very well seen, walking and flying. Arriving at the sea, we saw two Bald Ibis flying from the south, that flew in front of us for a while, and then flew north. After a while, a group of 10 Bald Ibis came from the north, and we could see them very well with the telescope. Leaving Essaouira we ran over a Red-necked Nightjar, that we found dead close tot he road. The trip was ok, but after passing Safi, some crazy guy threw to the car a big stone, that touched the bonnet of our car. We woke up before sunrise, and it was raining, so we slept more time, and we woke up at sunrise, when it was not raining. While we had breakfast, we heard a Black-crowned Tchagra in a bush close to us. Suddenly, two police came to us and told us that we had to leave the area as soon as possible. While we were packing everything, on the road passed a police motorbike, some 4x4 cars, a limousine, more 4x4 cars, and at the end of the retinue another police motorbike: a very important person was going to hunt, perhaps the king?. All the area was plenty of policeman, and our possibilities to see the Double-spurred Francolin were really low because we could not get to the fence close to the forest. We tried it, but the police told us to leave, so we drove south direction Sidi Betache. We stopped in a cork oak forest, where we walked around and we saw lots of Barbary Partridges, but no francolins. We also saw two Black-shouldered Kite. We slept at Tanger, a scary city, and we did not leave the hotel.
