The order used is Sibley & Monroe 1993 with the exception of splitting Philippine Drongo Cuckoo (Surniculus velutinus) from Drongo Cuckoo (Surniculus lugubris), Furtive Flycatcher (Ficedula disposita) from Cryptic Flycatcher (Ficedula crypta), Oriental Reed-Warbler (Acrocephalus orientalis) from Great Reed-Warbler (Acrocephalus arundinaceus), Red-keeled Flowerpecker (Dicaeum australe) from Red-striped Flowerpecker (Dicaeum haematostictum) and adding Bukidnon Woodcock (Scolopax bukidnonensis).

It is hard to believe that these highly distinctive races represent
the same species.

1 seen far away in the evening of 30-jan at Rasa Island and around
20 at dawn on 31-jan at
the roost. Rasa is nowadays the only reliable place to see this
species. According to
Tim Fisher the chance to see it at St Paulīs is less than 40%.
58 Glossy Swiftlet - Aerodramus esculenta
Very common at St Paulīs and Mt Katanglad. The marginata race,
sometimes split as
Grey-rumped Swiftlet was observed in good numbers at Mt
Makiling, Canaway,
Sablayan and Mt Polis.
59 Pygmy Swiftlet - Aerodramus troglodytes
Common, recorded at Mt Makiling, St Paulīs, Tabunan, RSNP, PICOP,
Ambabok and
on the way to Hamut.

Heard at Mt Makiling on 29-jan, seen very well at Apaya, 2 on 4-mar

Negros Bleeding-heart - Gallicolumba keayi
Probably this species was recorded at Canaway on 12-feb, when 3
birds were calling around
the camp. The vocalizations consisted a serie of 'hu' sounds, which
seemed to originate from
the canopy. A (poor) sound recording was made.
possible Negros Bleeding-heart Black-chinned Fruit-Dove
Black-chinned Fruit-Dove has a more or less similar sound, which
is also obvious in the
sonagrams. The sound of the presumed Negros Bleeding-heart seems
to be 'flatter' and the
intervals between the 'hu' sounds are longer. In fact, it looks
like the sonagram (fig. 2) given by
Curio, 2001 (Forktail 17). Jelle Scharringa however considers
the sonagram not conclusive.

it is known to occur here. In
1992 - 1993 in 22 days of fieldwork 31 (!) specimens were collected
(Threatened Birds of Asia
Part B). Hopefully these researchers will not pick Philippine Eagle
as their next study object.
