Systematic list of Birds and Mammals,

BIRDS

This list follows the taxonomy, names and sequence of the Sasol 'Birds of Southern Africa' (3rd edition 2003) by Sinclair, Hockey & Tarboton. In this 3rd edition many species are 'split': parrot, hornbill, canary, gull, cisticola, albatross, lark are the groups where these splits occurred. In my opinion this guide is the best fieldguide for southern Africa. Species marked with * are (near-)endemic to southern Africa. The following abbreviations are used:

(wSA) = western part of South Africa

(eSA) = eastern part of South Africa
(Bot) = Botswana

(Swa) = Swaziland
GR = Game Reserve
NP = National Park
