9th journey to the Barents Sea June 26th- July 28th, 2009 
- Spring had been early and humid, few snowdrifts left, especially on the NE slopes. Again no Lemmings on the tundra. Not ONE Rough-legged Buzzard...Lutz Lücker reports.

- We took a dirt road to the left,
named Ylilampi. After one kilometre this road ends at the lake. Alongside
this dirt road we saw a male Capercaillie, a good start of the trip!
We found a few Hazel Grouse in the thick bush near the lake....Sander

- 26 June 2007
- There were Corncrakes “rasping” in fields
next the campsite. Nick, who had never seen a Corncrake, along with some
other birders (most campers on this site seemed to be birders) was going crazy
trying to see them without success. Also on or around the campsite
were Thrush Nightingale, Common Rosefinch...Dave Owens reports
5th journey from S Sweden
to the Barents Sea July 2004
- Weather in the High Arctic was mostly dry and quite windy
this year. No rodents there, neither in Norway nor in Finland, whereas below
the Arctic circle in Sweden (Norrbotten) rodents were plenty! - Mosquitoes quite
bad this year, especially on calm, warm days on wet tundra in the evening. Strangely,
a few species were quite scarce or totally missing like Common Eider, breeding
Bar-tailed Godwit , Purple Sandpiper etc..Lutz Lücker reports. .

Sweden to the Barents Sea (Great
grey, brown and white Owls) July 2003
- My main target species was Great Grey Owl; I managed
to see it on the third day; the rest I considered as a bonus! It was
a little too late for passerines so I did not go to the Pasvik valley
this year, preferring to explore a high tundra plateau more thoroughly.
One cannot do everything at the same time. Distances are just too far

Northern Scandinavia 26/5/02 to 4/6/02
- Then things got silly. It was probably my fault; I was
the one who pointed out that the Arctic Circle was no more than a cock-stride
to the North. Wouldn't it be great to say we had been to the Arctic? We
all thought it would......Lee Nixon reports.

2000
- Some Norwegians said it was the wettest or coldest summer
they had ever seen, another said there had never been so many insects....
But thanks to some good local anti-mosquito stuff, a net (and, very rarely,
gloves) the little bastards were not a major problem on the coast and the
tundra. In woodland areas (Pasvik...) they did get a bit troublesome at times...Lutz

ambition to travel to this wonderful part of Europe in search of some of its
most magical birds. I had wanted to visit this region for many years... Gruff

Sweden - Stockholm archipelago:
July 2000
- Most of our time was spent at our family house on the
island of Tynningö which is in the Stockholm archipelago between Vaxholm abd
close to both Rindö and Värmdö. Parts of the island are still wild. In particular
the area we own which is 48,000 square metres is mainly forest.. Other areas
include a lake which has a water level about 10 or 12 metres above the surrounding
sea level - this lake contains crayfish! - and there is a good wetland swamp
area adjacent to it. Michael Watkins reports.
