• Naxos is one of the larger of the Cyclades reached by a 4-hour 'quick' ferry or a 7-hour 'slow' ferry from Piraeus. From a birding point of view the latter is best, you can get excellent views of both Cory's and Yelkouan Shearwater from the traditional open-deck ferry.....David Griffiths reports.

Birding on the Greek Island of Lesvos Richard Brooks: Buy from Amazon.com or Amazon.co.uk I found this book invaluable on my visit.....The systematic list is comprehensive, listing every bird recorded on Lesvos together with detailed information on status, distribution, and occurence. The book contains a useful index to the bird species, and contains some stunning photographs taken by the author to wet the appetite.
