Corfu
Corfu 2nd
– 9th May 2003
- To sum up Corfu is a beautiful island with
fields full of wild flowers, which attracts plenty of butterflies
and dragonflies. We may not have had a huge species list, possibly
because of the heat, but there are a huge numbers of common birds...Kevin
and Susan Boyd report.
Corfu 8th
- 23rd May 2000
- We were based in Paleokastritsa and hired
a car for 10 days, we tried to visit the Plains of Ropa at least
twice a day, usually first thing in the morning and last thing
at night......Gary Lewis reports
Corfu Oct
'99
- When I booked the holiday it was a late
availability and I didn't know where we were going on the island......
One thing that stands out was the reluctance of nearly all birds
to show themselves, probably for fear of being shot at!.. John
Jennings still manages to see 89 species in his week long
stay.
Kefalonia
Kefalonia 7th-14th
May 2006
- Kefalonia is the most beautiful of
Greek Islands and the scenery certainly makes up for the lack
of birds. We travelled out to Kefalonia with Thomas Cook
on the early morning flight from Manchester Airport....Kevin
and Susan Boyd report
Kefalonia 29th
Sept - 6th October 2005
- We explored most of the island and although we had some storms
the rain fell mainly at night. The island is extremely attractive
but the birding at this time of the year was not easy. There are
only two areas of wetland.....John and Sue Roberts report.
Kefalonia, Ionian
Islands, Greece, 27th May-10th June
2004
- Kefalonia is on the whole a beautiful mountainous island (much
more attractive than Lesvos for instance), and away from the
capital Argostoli and the other main towns such as Sami and Poros
and resorts the roads are generally very quiet, although this may
be different in the main holiday season...John
Armstrong reports.
Kefalonia 3rd
- 17th of May 1998
- John Jennings visited Kefalonia between
the 3rd - 17th of May 1998. The following report details the sites
visited and the birds seen at each of the sites.
Zakynthos
Zakynthos 20th
to 27th June 2004
- In general, it can be said that birdlife
on the island is somewhat sparse compared to other areas of Greece
(e.g. Lesbos) with the western locality eliminating several species
that can be found further east. Highlights included Short-toed
Eagle, Lesser Grey Shrike, Blue Rock Thrush, Black-headed Bunting,
Eastern Orphean Warbler and opportunities to study Eastern Olivaceous
Warbler (present in good numbers) and Scopoli's Shearwater...Richard
Bonser reports
